Miletus
Miletus is one of the historical places
on the way to Bodrum. It, for sure, is a must to see. The history
of Miletus goes back to the 2000 B.C.
Miletus, which used to be a harbor city at a time, had its best
period between 650 B.C. and 546 B.C.,until the Persians siezed and
destroyed the city. Later, in 479 B.C., when the Persians were defeated,
it was restored.
The
geometric plan of the first city planner Hippodamos, which is still
envied and admired today, was applied to the city. The theatre ,with
a capacity of 1500 people, Faustina Baths, Palaestra, Serapis Tample
are some of the remainings of this civilization. The whole of the
Agora and some statues were smuggled. Other than the Church and
the Holly Cemetery, the Gmnasionwhich, which had been restored and
Isa Bey Mosque, which is a Selcuk monument were of the pieces we
adored. The Harbor Gate at the end of the Holly Road, Demeter and
Korean
Tamples, also the Goddess Athena Tample are worth
to see.
Thales, Anaximandros, Anaximenes, Hekataios and Isidoros were of
the important people of the Miletus, which was a city of commerce,
art and science.
Some of the monuments of the city are displaid in Berlin, ?stanbul and Didyma
museums. We have seen this marvelous city for you and dreamed of
the trade ships at the harbor....
