Seferihisar
Believed to be established by the
Etrüsks, Anatolian settlers in 7 B.C., Seferihisar is one of the
twelve Ionian cities. They set up the ports Teos and Sığacık and
made this area suitable for settlement. Seferihisar is originally
known as Tysaerinopolis, a name taken from a Roman general.
Between 7 B.C. and the 5th century many different cultures have
lived in the area among which are the Lydians, Iranians, Athenians,
Spartians . Later on the Iranians, Pergamum Kingdom, Macedonians,
Greeks, Romans and Byzantiniums all held sovereignty in the area.
Following these in order of rule, the Seljuks, Aydınoğulları, Ottomans,
Timur Empire and again the Ottoman Empire were all predominant in
the area.
As
a result of playing host to all these different cultures Seferihisar
is flowing with historical and tourism attractions. Some of these
are;
TEOS- One of the first twelve Ionian
cities (4000-3000 B.C.). Metal carvings, apart from land and
sea trade which has an important inflence on banking, this area
also had a very powerful sea fleet. It was one of the most important
cities with respect to architecture, art and trade.
SIĞACIK KALESİ- Used by the Ottomans
in the Kanuni Sultan Süleyman era during the Rhodes expeditions.
Possesses three main gates.
Apart from these there are many mosques, masjids, tombs, turkish
bathes and historical cemetaries.
Seferihisar
has a coastline spreading over 27 kilometres and apart from its
many historical places of interest has many beautiful natural spots
, coves, beaches, hot springs and spas, handicrafts and citrus production
all attract attention to this area. Seferihisar also possesses rich
geothermal resourses.
