Selcuk
This
area’s history goes as far back as the early ages . Previously know
as Efes this area’s name was changed to Selçuk after Turkish and
Ottoman sovereignty in 1914.
Abundant history and natural beauty gives this area the look of
an open air museum with pine trees , olive trees and historical
remains entertwined with one another.
The Selçuk Castle built by the Byzantium Kingdom can be found in
the centre of this district. One of Christs apostles St. Jean‘s
church and grave can also be seen in this area situated on the skirts
of the Selçuk Castle.
9
km from Selçuk situated on Bülbül Mountain is the Holy Virgin Mary's
House prepared for her by St. Jean and is one of the holy places
where she spent her last days.
The İsa Bey Mosque also found in this area rises as a symbol of
two religions existing side by side. Şirince, famous for its local
wine, and the old city of Efes are two places which attract much
interest and are located in the Selçuk district.
From Selçuk it is very easy to go to Kuşadası with its beautiful
